Gail M. “Steve” Henry, 94, formerly of Rockford, IL died at the Villages Hospice House, The Villages, FL on August 14, 2010. Gail was born in Belvidere, IL on July 1, 1916 and moved to The Villages from Rockford in 2006. He married Rachel Shirley in February of 1942. He was a farmer for many years in Kirkland, IL, employed at Central Grain in Belvidere, IL before retiring from Rock Valley College, Rockford, IL in 1979. He was a World War II veteran and a fifty plus year member of the American Legion, Boone Post 77. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, visiting with friends and family, watching his daughter twirl baton in the parades, going to tractor and horse pulls, attending the monthly Four Score and More luncheons in The Villages and going to his cabin on Lake Koshkonong in Wisconsin.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda (Brad) Turacek, The Villages; sister, Barb Gingras, Newport News, VA; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; nephews and great-nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Rachel.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, Il with Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Belvidere, officiating. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
