Viola Grace Fidder-Wych, 92, of Garden Prairie, Illinois went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 28, 2011. She was the baby of the family and the last of her generation to die. Viola was one of twelve children of John Jacob and Anna (Berg) Fidder. Her father came to the United States at age 15 from Schmiehiem, Germany. She was born on August 26, 1918. They were raised on a farm in Shattuck’s Grove. Viola married John Henry Wych in Belvidere on October 11, 1937. She lived her entire married life in Garden Prairie. Viola was a member of the Garden Prairie United Church of Christ. She was a licensed beautician as well as having worked for Green Giant, Midwest Bottle Cap, Parsons Casket Hardware and retired from the Garden Prairie Post Office as an Assistant Postmaster. Viola has resided the past five years at Maple Crest Care Center. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo and collecting antiques with her husband. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed baking and entertaining them especially at Christmas time. She did this until she was no longer able. She will be missed by her friends and family. Viola is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Vern) Schwebke, Poplar Grove, Illinois; Marjorie (Roy) Coleman, Loves Park, Illinois; and Nancy (Ron) Blankenship, Cherry Valley, Illinois; seven grandchildren; Kirk (Patty) Schwebke, Poplar Grove, Illinois, John (Wendy) Schwebke, Friendship, Wisconsin, Dan (Terri) Schwebke, Roscoe, Illinois, Julie (Staurt) Kemp, Belvidere, Illinois, Joan (John) Givens, San Antonio, Texas, Connie (Ed) Ogorzaly Lincolnshire, Illinois, Kim (Mark) Benham, Rockford, Illinois; 16 great grandchildren, Shauna, Casey, Julie, Zachary, Ted and Marty Schwebke; Sam and Sara Kamp; Tara and Trenton Givens; Shannon, Evan, Ryan and Zachary Ogorzaly and Taylor, Brock and Kyle Benham; and one soon to be great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; an infant granddaughter Paula K. Coleman; seven sisters, Vera Schwebke, Margaret Paulson, Annie Diamond, Florence Brown, Mary Wahl, Helen Laver and one in infancy; four brothers, Edward, Fred, Maynard and Elmer Fidder. Funeral InformationFuneral service 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue with the Rev. Dale Beaman, pastor of Garden Prairie United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial in Garden Prairie Cemetery next to her husband. Visitation 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
