Donald F. See, 70, of Belvidere, IL died Sunday evening, September 5, 2010 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, after an unexpected illness. Donald was born November 9, 1939 in Elgin, Illinois the son of Gerald and Anne (Meldau) See. He married Charlotte R. Eggers in Huntley, Illinois on February 11, 1961. Donald served our country in the US Army from 1957 until his discharge in 1960. He then worked for Sears for 25 years before owning a Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Tipton, IN, from which he retired in 1994. Don was dedicated to his community in Tipton, where he served on the Economic Development Board as well as being a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Moose and an active member with the Kirkland, IL and Tipton, IN Lions Clubs twice earning the Melvin Jones Fellow award. Donald was a member of the Blackhawk Wood Carvers in Rockford, IL and a devoted member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Belvidere, where he was involved in the Illinois Conference stewardship development.

Donald is loved and will be missed by his wife, Charlotte of Belvidere; daughter, Peggy (Gary Birong) Kirby of Belvidere; son, Michael See of Jackson, MS; grandchildren, Derek and Ryan Kirby, Chandler See. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Dennis See.

Funeral Information

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2010 in St. John’s United Church of Christ, 411 N. Main Street, Belvidere, IL with Rev. David Bateman and Pastoral Associate Beth Carson officiating. Memorial Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL.

Donations Information

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John’s United Church of Christ , Kirkland Lion’s Club or Tipton Lion’s Club in his memory.
