Mr. Kenneth W. Culvey

Kenneth W. Culvey, 86 of Belvidere, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in Swedish-American Heart Hospital following a short illness. He was born December 7, 1923 in Belvidere, the son of William and Gladys (Strawn) Culvey. He was married to Frances L. Countryman in Belvidere on September 1, 1946. After High School he was drafted into the Navy as a Gunners’ Mate Second Class on June 21, 1943 serving in the Pacific, North Africa, Mediterranean, Asiatic and Atlantic Theatres during World War II. He was discharged February 26, 1946 with an Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, American Area Ribbon, Euro-Afri-MidE. Ribbon and Victory Ribbon. He worked for Belvidere Products, later he had a milk route and worked 38 years as an assemblyman for Borg-Warner. He retired in 1985. He was a member of the Baptist Faith, the V.F.W. John Hugo Kaiser Belvidere Post 1461; the Belvidere Moose Club Lodge 295; Local UAW in Rockford serving as a union steward. He was involved with the Little League and Pony Baseball League serving as a coach. Ken graduated from Belvidere High School in the class of 1943. He is survived by his three children, Vicki (Leon) Shattuck, Norman, OK, Dennis (Marilyn) Culvey, Belvidere, and Jodi ( Jeffrey) Michaud, Poplar Grove; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffrey (Holly) Shattuck, Jamie (Jennifer) Shattuck, Christopher (Jessica) Culvey, Ryan (April) Culvey, Tyson (Erika) Michaud, Perry Michaud, Alissa Michaud and Grant Michaud; ten great-grandchildren, Morgan, Bryce, Samuel Cole, Keaton, Bentley, McKenzie, Brayden, Alana, Sydney, Kallee Ann and another one on the way; two sisters, Mickey Billman, and Marjorie Penwarden and brother, Merrill Culvey; and brother-in-law Kenny Moore. He is also survived by his wife’s family which include three sister-in-laws, Margaret Jury, Alice Robinson, Lois (Dave) Cregeen: and three brother-in-laws, Franklin, Elmer (Sandy), and Richard (Jill) Countryman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances, a son, Teddy William Culvey and two brothers, Stanley and Don Culvey and a sister, Isabelle Moore. His children wish to thank the entire Staff of Swedish-American Heart Hospital, C-Pod for their loving compassion and care that was extended to their father.

Funeral Information

Funeral services 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. with the Rev. Wesley Hulsted, pastor of Faith Baptist Church. Burial with Military Honors in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
