Sherry Ann Drager Shelton

Sherry Ann Drager Shelton, 67, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Maplecrest Care Center in Belvidere. She was born July 28, 1942, the sixth child of Lloyd and Leona (Knott) Drager of Monroe Center, IL. Sherry attended grade school in several towns in northern IL and southern WI but graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1960. She worked 10 years for the Voit Rubber Co. in Chicago. She married Harold C. Shelton, Sr. of Mount Prospect, IL, at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton in June of 1976. After several years they moved to Big Sandy, TN, where Harold worked as a security guard and Sherry as the town librarian. They were members in the American Legion and Big Sandy UMC. Long time member of WOTM 1052 Belvidere. Sherry was an avid quilter and as an RSVP volunteer, made many lap quilts for nursing homes. She also enjoyed attending quilt shows. She was a member of the Big Sandy Senior group and attended their potlucks monthly. In Oct. 2009 she returned to Illinois after a diagnosis of brain and lung cancer was made. In Illnois she had the support of her family. She has been a resident at Maplecrest Care Center since Oct. 7, 2009.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Betty Wargowsky, brothers Ronald and Dale and nephew Larry Wargowsky.
Survivors include sisters Donna Roach of Kingston and Karen Drager of Poplar Grove, nieces and nephews Linda (Ron) Johnson of Kingston, Stuart Roach of Belvidere, Stephen (Rebecca) Roach of Rockford, Susan Sullivan of Rockford, James (Vicki) Roach of Palatka, FL, John R. Roach of Kingston, Brian (Shauna) Roach of Auburn, CA, Vicki (Terry) Stokes of Wisconsin Dells, Leon Wargowsky, Diane Boyer and Gail Shaffer all of Beloit, Scott and Craig Drager of Rockford, step-son H. Charles Shelton, Jr. of Franklin Park, and many great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Memorial service at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 6, 2010 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL with Pastor Lisa Kruse Safford officiating. Memorial visitation from 9:30 until time of service. Cremation to take place with burial at a later date in Monroe Center Cemetery.
