Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend

Ann C. Bennett, 72, of Belvidere, died Thursday, March 29, 2012 in her home surrounded by her family. Ann was the youngest daughter of Wayne and Virginia Smith, born December 20, 1939 in Huntingdon, Tennessee. She had four older siblings, Joe, Nell, Donald, and Karl, all deceased, and survived by sister Kathy and brother Warren. Moved to Rockford in 1957 and pursued a career at Barber Coleman and met the love of her life, some guy named Bennie, later married Bennie April 12, 1958. After a brief honeymoon at Niagara Falls she went back to work starting a family. The children from that momentous union were Kirk, Brenda, and Kevin. Ann was well travelled with many experiences including a manager for Avon, owned and managed the Bennett’s Dairy Bar and Restaurant. Later returning to Illinois to continue her career with Warner Electric as supervisor in the electronics group. She then developed a love of history and became involved with the Boone County Historical Museum Society where she served on the board for several years. Her many hobbies over the years were quilting, dolls, scrap booking and cook books.
She is survived by her husband, Gail D. Bennett, Jr. (that guy named Bennie), her son Kirk, his wife Julie, and their sons Sean and Ian, daughter Brenda Bennett-Bonnen and her daughters Amanda and Michelle, son Kevin, his wife Shelly, their daughters Jessica, Stacy, Stephanie and son Kyle, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ann will be missed greatly by all that she touched.

Funeral Information

Funeral service 11 AM, Monday, April 2, 2012 in First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Crone officiating. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation 2 to 5 PM, Sunday, April 1, 2012 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere.
