Larry D. Blackmer

Larry D. Blackmer, 56, of Belvidere, IL died Sunday, April 27, 2008 in Swedish-American Hospital fighting cancer. He was born December 5, 1951 to Vernon and Eleanor (Hoss) Blackmer of Cherry Valley, IL. Larry graduated form Hiawatha High School in Kirkland in 1970. He graduated from Kishwaukee Community College and attended Southern IL University. Prior to starting his own business, Larry worked at Green Giant Freezer Plant in Belvidere. Larry married Kathy Clark on July 14, 1987 and adopted Kathy’s daughter, Courtney, and then Luke and Whitney completed their family. Larry was happy knowing that he’d become a grandfather in December. The children were his strength and support to the end, staying by his side.

Larry is survived by his children, Courtney of Machesney Park, Luke of Belvidere and Whitney (fiancé, John Race) of Loves Park; parents, Vern and Eleanor Blackmer of Cherry Valley; brothers, Jerry (Liz) Blackmer of Cherry Valley and Jim (Terri) Blackmer of Cherry Valley; sister, Nan (Geno) Cuppini of Rockford and many nieces and nephews and special helper, Katrina Fildes. Larry is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jake and Alfrieda Blackmer and Charles and Isis Hoss as well as several maternal aunts.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2008 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL with Rev. Tom Siebert officiating. Burial will be in Flora Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2008 at the funeral home.
