Robert L. Turner, 75, of Belvidere, IL died Tuesday afternoon, April 22, 2008 at the University Hospital-Madison. Bob was born December 25, 1932 in Belvidere, the son of Henry E. “Hank” and Lucille M. “Suzie” (Stehley) Turner. Bob graduated from Belvidere High School and attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He married Roberta Flemming on October 18, 1964 in Belvidere. Bob was the former owner of Central Tire and Battery, prior to becoming the Belvidere Township Supervisor in 1981. He was a member of many community organizations such as the Belvidere Board of Realtors, Belvidere Chamber of Commerce, Boone County Republican Committee Chairman, State County Chairman, Township Officials of Illinois, Belvidere I.OU. Club, Belvidere Masonic Lodge #60 A.F.A.M., Freeport Valley Consistory, Tebala Shrine Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, Kishwaukee Chapter of S.A.R., Growth Dimensions Board, Saturday Morning Coffee Club and many other groups and organizations. Bob served our country in the US Army from November 3, 1954 through June 15, 1955 and was a great Wisconsin Badger fan. Bob cared deeply for his community and will be missed by countless friends, neighbors and his family. Survivors include his wife, Roberta; children, Jill (Terry) Phillips of Cherry Valley, IL, Robert E. (Lisa) Turner of Belvidere; grandsons, Jacob and Benjamin. Bob is predeceased by his parents. Funeral services with Masonic Rites will held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 in the Belvidere Community Building 111 W. First Street, Belvidere with Rev. James Crone, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the Community Building. In lieu of flowers, Bob would have preferred memorials to be given to either the Belvidere North High School Athletic Department or to the Keen Age Center in his memory. |
